Ball & Claw Newsletter #1
First things first, thank you. Thank you for stopping in, shopping, chatting, telling your friends, getting a latte, signing up for this email and thank you for reading it.
It’s hard to believe it’s only been 9 months since the purchase of this property, and 3 months since I opened the doors of Ball and Claw. I had a pretty good idea of what 213 Broadway was going to be when I convinced my family to invest in this project with me, a multi dealer antique shop with an espresso machine. What I didn’t know (and still don’t) is how it would evolve and change so much. Some of the original plans (the cocktail truck, farmer’s markets, outdoor films, etc) have been put on temporarily hold for various reasons, hopefully those kinks will straighten out for next Spring. And new ideas have sprung up…
Here are some things that ARE happening:
- We are open every day from 10 - 5 AND now we are open until 7pm every Friday through December for Holiday Happy Hour. Stop in for a glass of wine, some snacks, special sales and most importantly - fellowship and laughter.
- The upstairs has been painted and with a few more tweeks and weeks, we will have a book shop/library and a studio/classroom. We will be offering workshops in everything from embroidery, lamp rewiring, floral design, writing, sewing, calligraphy, drawing and painting, bead work to ??? We are looking for more ‘teachers’ that have a skill that they would like to share with others.
- Other plans/ideas: Backgammon Club, Book Club, Family Game Nights, Kids Chess Club,….
- Our main floor sitting room is open to all, everyday. Please feel free to bring your work, a game or a good book, grab a coffee, meet a friend….it’s cozy and has free wifi.
- We will soon be starting a Sunday afternoon lecture/learning series. Every Sunday at 3pm we will have an informal informative 10-20 minute talk or demonstration followed by a Q & A, on various topics….for example: the history of cameos, machine age design, testing for precious metals, Victorian mourning jewelry, toy cars, appraisals, pretty much anything. This will be free and open to the public. More information to come very soon.
- Did you know you can have your holiday party in the shop, one of the most unique venues in the region? Our own caterer Sylvan can make up fantastic hors d’oeuvres and victuals, all to be washed down with the classic cocktails of our favorite bar, Stockade Tavern. The shop looks gorgeous at night and it really is a magical spot to entertain.
- Looking to sell some antiques? We buy old stuff - art, furniture, jewelry and more. Write, call, text or stop in for more information.
I hope you've read this far...I'm very excited for the possibilities that B & C offers to my staff, dealers, community and visitors. Thanks for all of your kind words and support as we get this baby growing.
Looking forward to a peaceful and joyous holiday season.
Much Love,
Maria, Dino, Marcy, Dean, Pauline, Julia, Jason, Sophia, Patty and all the vendors at Ball & Claw
