About Ball & Claw Antiques
A lifelong love of antiques, design, and discovery
Ball & Claw Antiques is the creation of Maria Philippis, a longtime Hudson Valley resident, collector, designer, and lifelong lover of objects with history.
Originally from Long Island, Maria has called Ulster County home for most of her adult life. She studied at Parsons School of Design and SUNY New Paltz, earning a BFA in Metalsmithing, which continues to influence her appreciation for craftsmanship, materials, and timeless design.
Growing up in a restaurant family, Maria built her career around hospitality and creativity. In 2010, she opened her first restaurant, Boitson’s, followed by KOVO, both located in Uptown Kingston. After stepping away from the restaurant industry during the pandemic, she returned to her longtime passion: antiques, design, and collecting.
Maria first opened her antiques shop, Cakewalk, in Rosendale in 2003. Over the years, she has sold antiques through multi-dealer shops throughout the Hudson Valley, online marketplaces, and her own collections. In 2024, she brought all of these passions together with the opening of Ball & Claw Antiques in Port Ewen.
Today, Ball & Claw is a curated destination for antique and vintage finds, unique objects, and timeless pieces, with a focus on items that tell a story and bring character into modern spaces.
Beyond the shop, Ball & Claw hosts special events and markets that celebrate collecting, craftsmanship, design, and the continued appreciation of objects from the past.
